Safety Officer

Job Summary

Paveway Africa on behalf of our client is looking for the Safety Officer, who will play a crucial role in ensuring a safe and healthy work environment for employees, visitors, and other stakeholders. This position involves implementing and maintaining safety policies, procedures, and programs to prevent accidents, injuries, and occupational hazards. The Safety Officer collaborates with management and employees to promote a culture of safety and compliance with relevant regulations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• To develop, update, and implement safety policies and procedures in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
• To ensure that safety policies are communicated effectively to all employees.
• Conduct regular risk assessments and inspections of the workplace to identify potential hazards.
• To develop and deliver safety training programs for employees, covering topics such as emergency procedures, use of safety equipment, and compliance with safety regulations.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.
• To develop and implement emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures and first aid protocols.
• Keep abreast of changes in safety laws and regulations and update policies accordingly.
• Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify areas of non-compliance and improvement opportunities.
• Foster a positive safety culture by promoting awareness, accountability, and active participation in safety initiatives.
• To maintain accurate records of safety activities, training sessions, inspections, and incidents.
• Work collaboratively with management, department heads, and employees to address safety concerns and promote a safe working environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
• Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Safety Professional – CSP) are often preferred.
• Experience as a Safety Officer or in a similar role.
• In-depth knowledge of safety regulations and standards.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to conduct training sessions and deliver safety presentations.
• Analytical and problem-solving abilities for incident investigation and risk assessment.
• Proficient in using relevant software for documentation and reporting.
• Physical fitness and willingness to participate in emergency response activities.
